Unified School District No. 232 on Tuesday, March 11, announced Mrs. Denise Legore Seawood as the new principal of Mill Creek Middle School, effective with the 2025-26 school year. Legore Seawood’s appointment is pending formal approval by the Board of Education.

Legore Seawood is currently the Associate Principal and Athletic Director at Mill Creek Middle School – a position she has held since 2018. She will succeed Mr. Andrew Legler at Mill Creek who recently announced his resignation to pursue another leadership opportunity.

The appointment of Denise Legore Seawood follows an extensive search process conducted by the school district, which included interest from 20 applicants. “We are pleased to have Denise step into the leadership position at Mill Creek,” said Dr. Cory Gibson, Superintendent of Schools. “Her time at Mill Creek as both a teacher and administrator, combined with her experience as an elementary principal, will be invaluable as she supports our teachers and students in fulfilling the mission and vision of the school district.”

In addition to her administrative experience at MCMS, Legore Seawood spent five years as the Engineering Applications and Technology teacher for grades 6-8 at Mill Creek. Her background also includes five years as an elementary building principal and an additional eight years as an elementary technology integration teacher for Joplin Schools.

“Stepping into the role of principal at the very school I have loved and served is an honor beyond words,” Legore Seawood shared. “I am committed to fostering a culture of growth, support, and excellence for our students, staff, and community. Together, we will continue to make Mill Creek a place where every child thrives.”

Legore Seawood earned her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, with an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education, through Emporia State University, her master’s degree in Educational Leadership through Pittsburg State University, and a Specialist in School Leadership through Missouri State University. Denise and her husband Chuck have three sons and six grandchildren.
